Over the last decade, according to official figures, the poverty rate that stood at 48 percent and the extreme poverty rate of 20 percent were each halved. Under Chávez, million adults in this country of 30 million people learned to read and write, , completed primary education, and , extremely poor people received assistance.   Chavez, on the other hand, took over a country whose riches had been squandered by the two parties that alternated in government for the last several decades. It’s absurd to try to compare the society that Chavez inherited from his predecessors with other countries that had a .

Hugo Chavez can be defeated by a presidential campaign for the poor that provides them direct ownership of natural resources as tools to overcome poverty without state authoritarianism.

Told as a story, this book describes the political campaign that can succeed at doing just that - with a strategy that recognizes the real enemy is : Michael Rowan. On the other hand, it is not clear how relevant this measure is. In four years, poverty has been cut in half and extreme poverty by 70 percent.

This is a major achievement. The United Nations' Millennium Development Goals call for a reduction in extreme poverty by half over the period Other industries suffered as a result of the over-reliance on oil, with the share of manufacturing in GDP dropping from % in when Chavez took office to % in As a result of Chávez's overspending and policies such as price controls, there were shortages in Venezuela and the inflation rate grew to one of the highest in the world.

Over the past two years or so there has been much polemic between the government and the opposition over the issue of poverty. Chavez was originally elected on a platform to pay particular attention to the needs of Venezuela’s poor. Also, without a doubt, the poor represent Chavez’ most important constituency.

Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (/ ˈ tʃ æ v ɛ z /, Spanish pronunciation: [ˈuɣo rafaˈel ˈtʃaβes ] (); 28 July – 5 March ) was a Venezuelan politician who was president of Venezuela from until his death in Chávez was also leader of the Fifth Republic Movement political party from its foundation in untilwhen it merged with several other parties to.

When Cesar Chavez began building the farm worker movement, he knew it would take a strong Getting over Chávez and poverty book to remedy the economic injustices workers suffer at the workplace.

He also realized it would require a movement to overcome the burdens of poverty, discrimination and powerlessness people endured in. Poverty Books Showing of 6, The Glass Castle (Paperback) by.

Jeannette Walls “Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well- warmed, and well-fed.”. As in his article, Carroll refused to let basic facts or journalistic standards get in the way of his “strongman” analogy.

Indeed, the Guardian’s former South America correspondent came out of the gates shamelessly lying about Chávez and his three-term presidency. During his year rule, Chávez presided over economic dysfunction, managerial chaos and creeping authoritarianism. A view west across Caracas, which was once a buzzing metropolis.

More than two-thirds of the population now live below poverty levels. A recent report estimates that, for an average Venezuelan with 12 years of schooling, the probability of ending up poor is percent, up from percent only a decade ago.

Education-a common antidote against poverty-has simply ceased to work,Reviews: 4. Cesar Chavez may have seemed an unlikely person to become a leader of the labor movement. He was from a farmworker family, a group of workers who had never been organized before.

Chavez and Poverty Reduction. Chavez achieved several milestones for the poor in Venezuela. From toextreme poverty fell from to %. GDP per capita was increased more than twofold (from $4, to $10,), and unemployment was cut in half ( to %).

Over the past year, the statement that poverty in Venezuela has increased under the government of President Hugo Chávez has appeared in scores of major newspapers, on major television and radio programs. These statements have only rarely been contested or corrected.

A careful analysis of Venezuela's poverty rate, though, shows a decline during the Chavez presidency. Under his rule, Venezuela’s unemployment rate halved, income per capita more than doubled, the poverty rate fell by more than half, education improved, and infant mortality rates declined.

This book is really good because it teaches you about the what Hugo Chavez plans were and what he was able accomplish before getting cancer and leave the now President of Venezuela Maduro. I decide to read this book to learn more about the country that my family is from and where I myself was born in/5(70).

The World Bank figures (based, inevitably, on questionable Venezuelan data) suggest that the Venezuelan poverty rate was cut from 50 percent to 30 percent over. President Obama has proclaimed Chavez's birthday, Ma as Cesar Chavez Day "to remember a man who made justice his life calling." We believe that the best way to honor Chavez's legacy is through service and a renewed commitment to end income inequality and poverty.

Congress can do its part by raising the minimum wage now.
